Austin movie premiere...
By Steve Glenn
Radio Free Steve premiered at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas on July 31st.
200 people showed up.
I managed not to crap in my droors.
Man, what can I say. It was one of the most special times in my life. After 16 years, 5 months and 14 days, a real audience saw my movie.
I hid in the back and did teqweela shots while everybody watched footage I thought would ne'er see the light of day.
Everything was going well. Then Dirk showed up. I can't believe the nerve of that frickin' guy! After all we'd been through over the years.
I mean, he's the whole reason I never finished the movie in the first place, and then he shows up and starts stealin' my thundr, bragging about
how HE did ALL the camera work and stunt driving. Same 'ole deal. I almost kicked him in the taint and called it a night.
Then Trish walked into the theater. My old girlfriend. Sheena. I was floored. The last time I'd seen her was when she left me about
halfway through the making of the movie. She looked hotter than ever. Our eyes met across the theater. I smiled. She smiled back. Just like old times. Then, I felt Mr. Woodrow
rearing its ugly head. I thought the big bone was gonna ruin the night, just like at the Howdy dance in junior high. But I wasn't gonna let it stop me.
I untucked my shirt, hid the bulge, and crawled across 4 rows to where she was standing. After 16 years of being in the doghouse, I was
ready to make up with her. She handed me a letter. It was from her lawyer. I had neglected to obtain
a release from her to appear in the movie. MY lawyer, Hamp, said I shouldn't say anything more about it until the hearing.
After all that crud, I decided to just sit back and get loaded with my old friend
Jeff "Rufus" Morenz. He looked the same as when he played Moonshine in the movie.
And he could get just as hammered as ever, too. We kicked back, watched the movie, and basked
in the glory of being the stars of a major motion picture.
I got so cootered, they had to haul me out in some handicapped kid's wheelchair.
Afterwards we had a huge party at Club DeVille. Brown Whornet,
Viper Horse and Friends of Dean Martinez
all played. I have to admit, it felt kinda wierd having all those women hangin' on me and begging me to autograph their tits. Like the gentleman
that I am, I politely refused (until the after hours pool party at the Hotel San Jose!)
